If you asked 10-year-old Antonio, the founder of Oporto, about his biggest dream, he would have said, “have my own restaurant”—a surprising answer for a Portuguese country boy. Fifteen years later, after moving to Bondi Beach, Australia, he made that dream a reality.

Antonio introduced Bondi to a fresh, fiery style of Portuguese cuisine, featuring bold flavors of citrus, garlic, and chili, with chicken cooked over traditional Portuguese charcoal in the ‘Churrasco’ style. Australians loved their barbecues, but they had never experienced them like this.

Oporto was born, nurtured by loyal early customers like the Bondi lifeguards. They, along with local surfers, inspired the creation of the Bondi Burger, designed to be eaten in one hand while holding a surfboard in the other.

Oporto has never been about fast food—it’s slow food, served fast. The flame-grilled chicken and signature legendary sauce have grown to become as iconic as Bondi Beach itself.
